What’s your job on the production?
Costume Designer, Fabric Wrangler, Glove Fitter, & Beer Smuggler.
What’s the hardest part about telling a story this big with a small cast in a small room?
Creating costumes that are detailed, specific and visually engaging but can be thrown on and off to accommodate the multitude of characters and changes.

What’s your favorite aspect of your work on the play (so far)?
Well, always collaborating! Sharing this script with the other designers and our fearless Director and Writer! I’m also loving all the ways we communicate. We skype, we call, we meet, we can even do all those things at the same time. I love that the conversation never ends, we’re never done having ideas, we just have to pause sometimes.

What are you most excited for the audience to experience when they come to The Improbable Fall, Rise & Fall of John Law?
The energy of the show. I want them to experience the pace and excitement!

What’s your take on John Law (or at least Matt’s version of John Law) – hero, villain, or somewhere in between?
Can I say neither? I was mostly caught up by this kind of Everyman quality he has. And his willingness to sort of shout at the universe until it listens to him. I think we all feel that way sometimes, especially in the arts. “Have a little bit of trust, damn it, and it’ll all turn out well!” Fortunately for me, I don’t have to shout like that with Dreamscape, but I certainly related to the feeling.

I also think we all have to be impressed by his persistence. I don’t think many of us have to get past our Mothers on the way to our dreams – Moms love us and want to protect us, and sometimes try to save us from ourselves – but that’s John’s first hurdle in this play, and from there, it’s on to other countries and Kings. Should I have said spoiler alert?! Oops.

So, he’s not a hero in that classical way; he’s our hero, sure. And he’s our advocate for believing in something and getting someone to listen to your idea. I sort of love him for that.
