MEET THE CAST OF
THE IMPROBABLE FALL, RISE, & FALL OF JOHN LAW

We hear there are more than 40 characters in this play! How many are you playing?

6. Only 6? It feels like more...

Which of the characters you’re playing is your favorite? Tell us a little bit about that character.

At this point in the process, Fagon is my favorite character. As the Royal Physician to King Louis XIV, he has been doing his job for a LONG time and is ready for... a lifestyle change. After years of being at the beck and call of the King, Fagon is ready to have his own life. He's waited years for this opportunity, has lost patience, and takes matters into his own hands, so to speak.

What are you most excited for the audience to experience when they come to The Improbable Fall, Rise & Fall of John Law?

The show is monstrously fun to work on, with so many characters that revel in the ridiculous. But then in the midst of this amplified world, we stumble upon these moments of truth, these bits of humanity and frailty that are lovely. Then it’s right back to the laughs! Everyone should be ready for a wild ride.

If you became a millionaire overnight what would you do with your newfound wealth (besides donating generously to your favorite non-profit theatre company, of course)?

I’d pay a financial manager handsomely to advise me how to make money from money. Establish a trust. Travel. So much travel.

What’s the most surprising thing about John Law or the history of money that you’ve learned working on this play?

That US currency is not backed by gold!!! I was born after that changed, but somehow I never got that information... Maybe I was sick and missed that day in Government/Econ Class, or maybe the fact that I took zero classes in finance at my liberal arts college are to blame. (Either way, I clearly need that financial adviser.)

What’s your take on John Law (or at least Matt’s version of John Law) – hero, villain, or somewhere in between?

He’s a scoundrel. But who doesn’t love a scoundrel?
